Dreame continues to innovate in the robot vacuum industry. This time, the Dreame L10 Pro comes with intelligent obstacle recognition and avoidance. We compare it with the Roborock S5 (not available now, but the S6 is 99% the same) in this review.

Specification

To begin with this review, it’s interesting to know that both brands are Xiaomi partners. If Xiaomi is known for its good value price, this is also the case of its partners. But, the Dreame proposition is better when it comes to comparing the equipment for the value. Indeed, Dreame L10 Pro is over-equipped for around 350€.

Comparatively, the older Roborock S5 is less equipped. For your information, the Roborock S5 isn’t foundable in the market as Roborock replaced it with the 99% similar Roborock S6. But this less equipped robot is sold higher than the last Dreame, at around 400€.

Navigation technology

When it comes to navigation technology, Dreame L10 Pro uses a high-precision 3D scanner. It consists of dual structured light technology, the kind of technology used in the facial recognition area. It results that the Dreame bot can avoid obstacles. In addition, Dreame uses a LiDAR navigation system for mapping your home.

In front of Dreame, Roborock S5 and S6 are only equipped with a LiDAR navigation system for mapping your home. So, technically, it can’t avoid obstacles.

Obstacles avoidance

To begin with the obstacles avoidance comparison, we use an infrared camera to understand navigation technologies used on both vacuums better. Indeed, we can see the dual structured light technology on the L10 Pro. It results in the avoidance of the bottle in the scene.

As can be seen on the Roborock, it only comes with a LiDAR navigation system. So, it needs to bump the bottle to detect it. In the review video, we can better understand the difference as the bottle touch of the Roborock results in the fall of the lego above it.

Flower in balance avoided by Dreame L10 Pro

To better understand how the Dreame L10 avoid obstacle compare to Roborock, we put a flower in balance. This test is similar to the previous one using an IR camera. But this time, the balance is more fragile as we put a flower in the peak of a higher lego tower mounted on a bottle. So any touch of this tower will make the flower falling. When it’s the turn of the Roborock, this one has no choice to touch the bottle, making the flower falling. Contrarily, the 3D scanner of the Dreame L10 Pro makes it turn around the bottle without touching it. So the flower stayed at the peak. See here.

Wire avoided by the Dreame L10

Another time, the 3D scanner of the Dreame bot makes miracles. Even thin objects like cable are avoided by the dual structured light of the Dreame vacuum. While the Roborock S5 can’t see the wire. So it vacuums it. In addition, the wire can be damaged. See here.

Dreame L10 Pro can avoid dog poop

The worst scenario happens with pet poop. To simulate this scenario, we use cat food. Unfortunately, the Roborock can’t see it. Then you’ll need to spend time washing the Roborock. Conversely, the Dreame L10 detects the simulated poop. It only barely touches it, as you can see in the review video.

Spot cleaning

With this test, we have an idea of the cleaning efficiency of both bots vacuum. Here, both vacuums have similar results. The real difference should appear after a long period of usage. And the advantage should go in favor of the Dreame L10 Pro as the suction power double the one from Roborock S5 and S6. So with 4000 Pa, the Dreame bot should absorb more dust after some days of usage. See the test here.

Whole apartment cleaning

Now, we’ll compare the whole apartment cleaning. If you want to see both robots running the whole apartment cleaning with their real-time map, go to the review video. During this test, we can see the L10 Pro eating a small rope from a toy. Indeed, it’s too small to be detected by the scanner. By the way, the 3D scanner of the Dreame bot isn’t perfect, and we can see it fails during this test to avoid certain obstacles like wire. In the end, Roborock is faster and covers a bigger surface. This inconvenience should be coming from the 3D scanner. But by deactivating it, you should get a similar result to the one from Roborock. So it’s up to you to try with or without depending on your need to see if the 3D High Precision Obstacle Avoidance option on the Dreame L10 changes the result at your convenience.

Mopping’s water usage

To conclude with the mopping feature, we see that the electronic water tank from Dreame L10 Pro can dispense more water to clean the whole apartment. Indeed, this one drains 115 ml on the floor. In comparison, the passive filter technology of Roborock S5 and S6 only drains 7 ml on the floor.

Dreame L10 Pro

In conclusion, Dreame outworks the competition with its advanced obstacle avoidance technology. The 3D scanner adds a real advantage in the world of robot vacuum. Indeed, if you are familiar with bots, you know how it can be cumbersome to see it eats your important things. And, this new technology doesn’t come alone as both the electronic mop and big dustbin continue to add value to the Dreame L10. But even with all these good features, the price stays the best at around 350€.

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Roborock S5, Roborock S6

At his time, Roborock S5 did a really great job! Now, Roborock S6 updated it but just for the name as both robots are 99% similar. And this is the problem! Indeed, even if Roborock did a good job with S5 and now S6, the manufacturer doesn’t give a lot to its customer for the price. Indeed, you need to pay more for lower equipment compare to the Dreame proposition. The mop doesn’t drain a lot of water, the dustbin is small, and navigation technology doesn’t have an evolved obstacle avoidance system.

Rating: 3 out of 5.

Where to find those bots?

Basing on the price when this article is written, Dreame L10 Pro is a good choice for the value. But, Roborock could be a good choice if the price falls and you don’t need so much. Check and make your choice!
